Dr. Shauna Mead

Dr. Shauna Mead

Veterinarian

Dr. Shauna Mead is native to upstate New York where she learned at a young age she had a life long desire to care for animals. Her undergraduate studies were at Utica College of Syracuse University, majoring in biology. When she wasn’t studying, she took pride in working at New Hartford Animal Hospital as an assistant and volunteering at a monthly spay and neuter release clinic.

She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in the Caribbean and found another love: the ocean. While in veterinary school she was a leading member of PAWS (People for Animal Welfare on St. Kitts), which included being a foster to multiple dogs. After spending her last year of veterinary school at Cornell University, her fiance and multiple four-legged children ventured to San Diego. A year was spent at California Veterinary Specialists doing a rotating internship focused on small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency. Since completion of the internship in 2010 she has worked as an associate general practitioner and as an emergency clinician, as well as welcomed her first daughter into the world.

All areas of veterinary medicine are of interest; currently, she is focusing on strengthening her ability to perform ultrasounds. On days off she plans to help Dr. Hatt with spay/neuter release programs, surf, hike, and establish a home in beautiful Hawaii.

Dr. Rachel Caballero

Dr. Rachel Caballero

Veterinarian

I grew up on a small family farm in southern Virginia where I developed my love for animals. I spent most of middle school, high school, and some of undergrad volunteering/working at the local mixed animal practice. I attended NCSU where I majored in animal science. I then attended veterinary school at Virginia-Maryland college of Veterinary medicine. Special interests include surgery and internal medicine.

My fiancé is in the military which brings us to beautiful Oahu with our two dogs (Mike and Rambo). Our favorite hobbies include pretty much anything outdoors – swimming, snorkeling, scuba, hiking, running, bike riding, skiing, golfing. We also love laid back beach days, checking out new eateries and local craft brews!

Dr. Marguerite Speelman

Dr. Marguerite Speelman

Veterinarian

Aloha, I’m Dr. Marguerite Speelman! I grew up in Canada where I attended the University of Calgary for my bachelor of science in biology, and went on to earn my DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. The beautiful landscapes, climate, and culture drew me to Oahu. I am passionate about veterinary medicine as it allows me to use my skills to connect with the community and help to strengthen the human-animal bond. I enjoy all aspects of medicine, but am particularly interested in internal medicine, dermatology, wellness and preventative care. Outside of work I can be found exploring the island through hiking, snorkelling, scuba diving and other outdoor activities. I am eager to serve the Animal House community!

Dr. Tracey Mullins

Dr. Tracey Mullins

Veterinarian

Aloha! My name is Dr. Tracey Mullins. I knew when I was very young that I wanted to be a veterinarian, but sometimes life doesn’t give you a direct path to that goal. I grew up showing Shetland Sheepdogs and participating in 4-H and AKC shows. While in college, I met an Army guy, got married, followed him around the globe, completed several degrees, and started a family, having our wonderful daughter Lindsey. But I still wasn’t a veterinarian, so I went to vet school later in life attending Kansas State University. I love everything about being a veterinarian (especially dermatology, surgery, and pediatrics), and I believe in treating every patient like they were my own pet. My pets are part of our family, they make us laugh, cry, and sometimes scream! We love our pets dearly and I look forward to meeting you. When I’m not at work, yes this does occur, I really enjoy running, snorkeling, gardening, and spending time with family.

Executive Team

Jessica

Jessica

Executive Director

Aloha! I am Jessica and I am the Executive Director here at Animal House Veterinary Center. I also manage Dr. Hatt’s other practice in Northern California! I feel incredibly blessed to spend my time in two pretty awesome places in the United States. I love being a part of the Animal House Ohana because I believe in providing the best care possible to our fur babies and encouraging and empowering staff to live their best life, both in and out of work. I began my journey in the Veterinary industry with Dr. Hatt back in 2011 and have loved the journey ever since.

But who am I outside of work? I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 3 loveable furbabies! I have my goofball Lab, Odell, who is the biggest snugglebug I’ve ever met. I have my old lady Australian Shepherd, Maggie May, who was my husband and I’s first baby. And I have an anti-social black cat, Tekka Maki, who just really prefers you leave her be. My husband and I are passionate about traveling and do it as often as we can! I’ve been all over the world, and have wrapped our love of travel into one of my biggest personal goals – To run a marathon in every state! So far, I am 12 states in and the journey has taken me to some pretty phenomenal places that I may not have considered otherwise. When I am not traveling or running (Which admittedly is rare), I am hiking, biking, beaching, or exploring local craft breweries and wineries.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know me a little bit. Pop on in and say hi! I love to get to know our clients! I look forward to meeting you and your fur babies!

Michelle K.

Michelle K.

Director of Medical Services

Alllloohaaaa!! My name is Michelle and I am the Medical Director here at Animal House. I’m a local girl born and raised here on Oahu. I traveled the world with my family because my dad was in the military and after 18 years I decided to move back home where I have remained since, “NO PLACE LIKE HOME”! Here I am blessed to share my life with my hubby of 16 years and my 3 boys (4 legged) Buddah and Tofu (Jack Russel mixes) and my boxer MJ. Love them! The last few years we have made it a point to put in more time for traveling. Recently we went to Europe and also took our first cruise ever to Mexico! But when we are home beach time is always a must!! The ocean is my reset button!

I have been in the Veterinary field for over 15 years and 13 of those years have been spent here with my Animal House Ohana. I also spend half of my time helping to manage Dr. Hatts other practice, Pawsh Place, in California. I have always been very passionate about providing the best care for our patients and their families. I enjoy being part of leading our staff every day and hope I can continue to motivate and inspire them even through the toughest of days.

Cassandra

Cassandra

Technician Assistant

Cassandra is a native of the Metro-Detroit area of Michigan where she earned her BA in Journalism and Advertising from Oakland University. She worked briefly with CBS Newsradio in Detroit before moving around the country to Hawaii and to North Carolina with her military husband. This is her second time back on the island!

It is in North Carolina where she answered the call to the veterinary field and served as a Client Service Representative at two of the largest clinics just outside Fort Bragg for nearly eight years. She was also a contributing, quarterly writer for a local magazine’s “pet column” and helped edit and produce content for her practice’s website that highlighted patients or procedures. During this time, she was able to improve and expand upon her biggest passions—research, client education, and pathology. Whether it is discussing the newest in preventive medication or going over vaccine protocol, ensuring that pet parents understand every aspect of their pet’s care is one of her biggest priorities.

Cassandra has a soft spot for XXL breed dogs, especially seniors. She has personally adopted as well as adopted out senior Mastiffs from local kill shelters in NC, providing them with proper geriatric and end-of-life care— a chance for a loving retirement, if you will!

In her off time, Cassandra has been working to combine her love of writing and her passion for animals by going back to school to become a Research Veterinarian. She gets much encouragement from her family of five dogs (Maia, the English Mastiff; Kane, the Cane Corso; Max, the German Shepherd; Beyla, the German Shepherd; and Beorn, the pitbull mix), and three cats (Jane and Lola, both Maine Coons; and Kit Von D, the Siamese). Cassandra is an avid equestrian. She also enjoys cooking, Star Wars, hockey, and weightlifting.

Christen

Christen

Kennel Assistant

Hi there, My name is Christen. I just moved to Oahu after living in Maui for a year. I moved from Louisiana to Hawaii during the beginning of the pandemic. My boyfriend was a local of Maui, and we had been planning my move for over a year before the pandemic started. So nothing was going to stop me and my two fur babies Meeko and Rosie, from getting on that plane and starting our new life in Hawaii.

My boyfriend also had his own dog, Tank. Together we also adopted 3 guinea pigs. So we have quite the blended family! In Louisiana, I grew up around all different types of animals. Dogs, cats, salamanders, snakes, frogs, turtles, and I even helped raise and care for many types of birds. I’ve always loved animals, they are special in my heart, and I will always do whatever I can to help them and learn from them.

In my adulthood, I got a wonderful job as a home health caregiver in which I cared for an individual for many years. That experience will always be dear to my heart. It was a privilege and a true learning experience. When moving here, I noticed the abundance of opportunities to pursue my dreams of working with animals. I was never given the chance until now, and for that, I am truly grateful to be a part of The Animal House team.
